Frequently asked questions
Answers to important questions about selection, use and the specific features of this talent category.
How do I find the right actor or performer for my project?
Start with a general idea of the role and suitable moods or examples. We use these as a guide and select characters and types that fit your idea. Sometimes we deliberately add suggestions that do not match the initial reference exactly but could work very well based on our experience. This creates a step-by-step selection from which you can assemble your final cast.
Which details belong in a role profile for actors and performers?
A role profile should contain the details that allow actors and performers to be classified accurately. These include age or playing age, visual characteristics, languages and, where relevant, dialects. The more precisely the role and its intended effect are described, the better we can select suitable suggestions. Additional requirements should only be included when they are genuinely important for the production.
Do the selection criteria differ for commercials, corporate films, film and social media?
The selection is always individual and cannot be determined by the format alone. Broadly speaking, professionally trained actors are often booked for traditional commercials and corporate films. Social media productions often place greater emphasis on realness and authenticity, in which case real people or new faces with camera experience and presence can be a good fit. The budget can also influence the decision. The decisive question remains which effect and skills the project actually needs.
What should be considered for speaking roles, dialogue, foreign languages and dialects?
For speaking roles, precise details about language, dialect and the intended way of speaking can be decisive for casting. These requirements should therefore be clearly stated in the role profile. Existing profile details allow an initial selection; where necessary, the confidence with which the language or dialect is performed on camera can then be checked.
What can be assessed from a sedcard, showreel and e-casting?
The sedcard gives you a first impression of type and appearance. A showreel also shows acting, voice and impact in motion. After the initial selection, an e-casting follows as the second step at Just In Cast. The selected favourites perform a briefing or a specific scene. This allows you to assess who fits the role and project and then make your decision.
What is the difference between actors, performers and real people?
Actors usually have professional acting training and/or many years of camera experience. Performers, real people and new faces place greater emphasis on realness and authenticity and often have less camera experience. The right choice depends on whether the project mainly requires acting skills or a natural presence. Fees may also differ because of training and experience.
